Off the Mat, Into the World: Why Just Stretch When We Can Reach?
Type: ● [D] "Off The Mat" / "Giving Back" ●
INSTRUCTOR:
Seane Corn
Class Description: Spiritual Activism: "The yoga community is over 20 million souls strong and generates billions of dollars annually to our economy. Can you imagine if we could collectively align our efforts and resources? Can you imagine what we could create if we worked together to raise awareness and redirect some of our attention, energy, prayers and funds to help the people of this world survive? Can you imagine the impact we could have if we work together to serve any social, political or environmental issue? Well, I can, and the far-reaching possibilities have inspired me to no end. We are a vital and abundant clan and I have always believed that if the world is going to change, it will be up to us to create it." For Seane, outreach has been a large part of her daily yoga practice and the focus of her service has been directed towards children and the global AIDS emergency. YouthAIDS is the organization she proud to represent and as their National Yoga Ambassador, she shares their mission to protect every youth and the most vulnerable from HIV/AIDS. In 2004 she created the "Off the Mat, Into the World" campaign and appealed to the yoga and wellness communities to support YouthAIDS and their international life saving programs through various creative fund raising efforts. Join her for a discussion of her work with YouthAIDS, her commitment to spiritual and social activism, and what you can do to get involved in outreach in your own community.
