Asana As A Window To Yoga

Class Description: Senior Iyengar teacher, Lindsey Clennell will connect the way BKS Iyengar teaches asana to the practice of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga. Upbeat and humorous, Lindsey's teaching style encourages a broad view of yoga that helps us to realistically connect with our spiritual nature. This session, one of two level 2 asana classes, will include practice, analysis of poses, and explanations of the rational behind the way Iyengar yoga is taught, and how it should be practiced to improve and stabilize our psychological and spiritual wellbeing. The classes will be self contained. Participation in the second class does not require attendance of the first. The main themes developed through both classes will be: 1. The qualities of nature, why asana works on a physiological level, and type of benefits that it brings. 2. How asana introduces us to the better understanding and practice of Bhakti and Karma Yoga -- love and action 3. How our new experiences of physical and psychological wellbeing can be further supported through the use of ideas and practices suggested by Patanjali and the writers of the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads.
