Extending the Extension: The Effective Use of Belts in Asana Practice

Class Description: In this class Joyce will take some of the most familiar of asanas and make them fresh and new by re-examining their effects if we use belts around various parts of the body. She will show us how asanas like tadasana, urdva hastasana, sputa virasana , adho mukha svanasana and many more can be developed by the simple placing of a belt around our big toes, under the arch of our foot, on our ankles, mid calves, thighs and on up! She will also discuss at length the importance of including supta padangustasana in our daily practice . Joyce will remind us why the actions of this pose appears in no less than sixty percent of all the poses presented in B KS Iyengar's Light On Yoga and why he himself has described the pose as being 'all over effective'.
